Eidnes Furs---SKINS & HIDES, HAIR ON
The following section is listed alphabetically by species. All selections are
beautifully commercially tanned (dressed is the fur trade terminology) by major
international and domestic fur dressers. Due to factors effecting each skin (species, time
of year harvested, section of the country, size, color, weight or density of fur, damage,
quality of fur handling in the raw state, etc.), we use a price range for each grade
offered. Please keep in mind that the more we know about what you are doing with your
selections, the easier it is for us to pick them.
We base our pricing on the following six factors:
SIZE Large or extra large as is noted for each species. The size listed is
just an example. We have bigger and smaller sizes also.
FUR QUALITY

The best, fanciest, primest, full furred, lustrous, very good guard hair coverage. |

Very good looking with good guard hair coverage. |
| SL DMG
#1 Fur quality
but with leather or fur damage that is either un-noticeable from the fur side or easily
repairable with minimal labor. |
| GD #2
Generally later or earlier harvested skins with some guard hair weakness, small fur
imperfections or slightly matted underwool. |
| #3, FLAT OR DAMAGED
Off grades,
good for cutting up projects. |
COLOR The color of each species will vary as to section of the
country, genetics, nutrition and season of harvest. All colors are either described or a
relative value given as to each animal.
WEIGHT This is the thickness or density of the fur and is determined by
genetics, section of the country, nutrition and season of harvest.
DAMAGE Most all wild animals will have some degree of damage due to method
of harvest, fur handling ability of harvester, dressing mistakes, and un-controllable
natural circumstances.
COMPLETENESS Most of our skins are handled for the fur trade and hence are
offered without feet. We usually have complete skins in each category but due to the extra
skinning labor and dressing costs they are more expensive. Please ask and we can let you
know the price for your request.
Please remember if your requirements range to the top of each category, you can expect
to be purchasing the most expensive and vice versa. If you can’t find what you are
looking for, please call us as we generally have a good selection in addition to what is
listed below. Also, not every size or grade is always available.
